Income tax · after the original due date
These are three different filings. The date on the income-tax portal decides which one is still open. Future Tax prepares the draft from 515 Trichy Road, Singanallur. You approve it before it is filed.
This page separates a belated return, a revised return, and an updated return. The filing itself stays on the income-tax filing page. Do not send the income-tax password in chat. Call +91 94454 38387.
If the due date in force has passed and no return was filed, a belated return under section 139(4) may still be open. It is generally available until 31 December of the assessment year, or until the assessment is completed, whichever is earlier. Income earned in FY 2025-26 is assessed in AY 2026-27, so that December date is 31 December 2026 if the section still uses it. Confirm the date on the portal before you file.
A return filed after the due date in force can attract a late fee of ₹5,000 under section 234F, or ₹1,000 if total income is up to ₹5,00,000. Section 234A charges 1% per month on unpaid tax for the delay after that due date. Those amounts follow the provision in force. They are not a reason to leave out income that was received.
A revised return under section 139(5) corrects a return that was already filed under section 139(1) or section 139(4). It is generally open until the same outer date: 31 December of the assessment year, or completion of the assessment, whichever is earlier. Confirm that date on the portal. A revised return is not a second original return. If Form 16 and AIS disagree, start with the mismatch check before the correction is filed.
An updated return under section 139(8A) is a different form. It is used to add income that was missed. It cannot be used to claim a refund or to reduce the tax already shown. The extra tax and the last date are the ones in that section for the year. It is not available in every case, including where a search, a survey, or an assessment has already been taken up. Confirm the date and the extra tax on the portal before you file.
Income-tax work starts at ₹2,000 on the Coimbatore income-tax page. A late file or an updated return costs more. The quote is confirmed before filing. The first discussion is free. The length depends on the file. After processing, read any 143(1) intimation against the return that was filed.
If no return was filed, a belated return under section 139(4) may still be open until 31 December of the assessment year, or until the assessment is completed, whichever is earlier. Confirm that date on the income-tax portal before you file.
If the revision window is still open, that is a revised return under section 139(5). If that window has closed, an updated return under section 139(8A) may be the form that adds the income. An updated return cannot reduce the tax already shown or claim a new refund.
